Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in men and women. It affects up to 70% of men and 40% of women.
These changes often occur in a gender-specific pattern, characterized by a decrease in hair density, diameter and length.
PRP is a volume of blood plasma which is highly concentrated with platelets. Platelets are rich in several different types of growth factors that have multiple actions on the hair follicles, namely platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The growth factors increase vascularity and have been shown to accelerate the growth of hair and increase the hair shaft and follicle diameter. PRP has also been shown to promote the growth phase, the anagen phase, of the hair follicle.
At Facette instead of just treating hair loss with PRP, we’ve decided to treat hair loss with every tool in our toolbox.
We start with a Vivace treatment to the scalp. Vivace is radio-frequency energy delivered by micro-needles. For skin rejuvenation of the face and neck it has been our most popular treatment to date. It also helps promote hair growth by stimulating blood supply and growth factors.
We follow this with PRP by drawing your blood in 1-2 tubes and then spinning in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. Once this is complete we transfer the PRP to a different tube that helps create PRFM, or platelet-rich fibrin matrix. The only job of the fibrin matrix is to hold the PRP in place for longer, thereby giving you growth factor release for days verses hours. We inject (with a tiny needle) the PRP to the areas we want to see more hair growth.
Finally, we place you under our LightStim LED panel for 20 minutes. LED light has been shown to increase vascularity and ATP (cellular energy) production.
Basically, we are supporting all those newly implanted growth factors by giving them as much energy and as we can.
We typically recommend 3 treatments spaced one month apart. Then, a 4th treatment 3-6 months later.
